Pickups in Sterling JP60
« on: April 03, 2020, 12:35:02 AM »
Call me crazy but I have a Sterling JP60 with stock non Dimarzio pickups that I prefer the overall sounds to the Musicman JP6 with Crunchlab. The Sterling seems to have a warm character that I like, while not being too hot or dull.

I've played both and I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas that what the stock Sterling JP60 pickups are closest to in terms of tone(to any aftermarket pickups). I kind of doubt if it is really modelled after a CL because I really dislike the CL when I tried it.

The only thing I would like is to have a better clarity. Thanks!

What are those, Basswood? There are a TON of Dimarzios that sound great in my Basswood Ibanez RG's. I have the Crunch Lab in one, but it is one of my least favorites. I love the Air Zone, Fred, 36th, Paf Pro, Tone Zone, Evo2, Breed, Norton...  i would put any of those ahead of the Crunch Lab. You might avoid the Tone Zone/Air Zone if you want clarity, but any of those are great.
