Hi!

I have an Ibanez RG752AHM with ash body and maple fretboard and I'm looking for a good pickup combo for metal/progmetal.

The stock PAF 7 sounds great but there's a high pitched sound when I play on the high e-string and a want a little more output as well.

What do you suggest? I've thought about a Blaze custom and an air norton. Someone who has tried them in an ash body guitar with bolt on maple neck with maple fretboard?

Do you know what type of ash?  It could be that you have a lot of brighter sounding woods going on there.

I have the Blaze Custom and like it a LOT better then the original Blaze. But that’s in basswood with a rosewood board.

Is your issue something that you cannot dial out at the amp?

Can you better describe what’s going on with that sound from the high E?  Are you certain it’s not a problem with the saddle or a high fret or so on?

It just says "ash body" it's an Ibanez RG752AHM.

Some kind of high pitched scrapy sound like an overtone or something, hard to describe.
I want a pickup with less treble on the higher strings if that's possible.

Take a look at the DiMarzio site and refer to some of the tone graphs from the options and read the descriptions. You might need to factor in the upper mids, which is not really reflected in the graphs.

The Blaze Custom is better than the Blaze in my opinion, but I’m not so sure it will be as relaxed in the highs.

Are you OK with the output of the PAF7?

Well I have checkes the graphs but it's hard to tell how it's actually going to sound.

I want more output. Not a lot but a bit more.

If you roll down your tone control a tad does that help the high pitched sound that's driving you nuts?

Yes, a bit. Still want some more output power though.

Maybe the CL/LF set or the Imperium set.   I’m tempted to throw the Titan set into the mix as a front-runner.

Sounds like it could be 2 different things going on.   

I understand wanting more powerful/warmer pickups, and DMZ has a lot of choices, the Blaze Custom is a good choice, along with 5 or 6 others like the D-Sonic, TZ-7, or even the Air Norton 7 in the bridge with the PAF 7 in the neck. 

But, the high overtone thing doesn't sound like it is a pickup issue, sounds more like the string hitting a fret(s) when it is vibrating.  Does it happen every where on the fretboard or is it worse in certain spots?  Does it happen on open striongs?  Do you have your action super low?  Maybe try raising it a hair and see if that helps.
