I guess tastes change over time....I used to really dig the norton in my old RG 560, but now I find it too much, a bit too full and even the highs a bit much.  I do have the S norton in the neck which I really like...still

Looking for a medium output pickup that's a bit less aggressive than the norton, more towards PAF then modern sounding.  Air zone seems like it would be too big, breed bridge maybe too much mids?  Or not?

I think you're on the right track. The Air Zone or Breed would be a great fit.
