Hum canceling replacement for the FS1?
« on: November 12, 2014, 07:44:58 PM »
I’m looking to try hum canceling pickups in my strat.  I’ll use the Area 58, Area 67, or a combination of the two in the middle and neck position.  I also want to stay with the stock 250k controls.

I’ve been using the FS1 in the bridge position of my strat for many years.  I was advised the Virtual Solo would sound close, but I would like try Alnico 2 pickups.  Injector Neck model maybe?  Heavy Blues 2?  Any pickup I’m overlooking?

Thank you!

Greg

I have the Virtual Solo in the middle position of my RG550, and its awesome. Has nice output and is still very single coil like while having more body and warmth, but not too much. I think it would be a close noiseless option to the FS-1, which I have in the middle position in my tele. They do share some similar qualities, but I would have to investigate further to give you a proper description.

Fine wines are found in glass bottles, not plastics sacks; As such, so are the finer electrons.

Good choice, any of them. My favorite is Area 67 in the neck and Area 58 in the middle.

I would prefer the HB2 over the Injector neck for the bridge as it is less bright. Virtual Solo would be less bright than either.

Cheers Stephan

Would it be safe to say the Injector Neck would fall between the Area 61 and the Heavy Blues 2?

Yes, but closer to the HB2.

I have two Area 67s and a HB2 on the way.  My original plan was to use them in my main strat but now I’m thinking a new build.

I'm finally getting around to it.  I changed my mind on the pickups.  I'm going with a 58 & 67 for neck middle and I'm trying the Injector Neck model for the bridge position.

Virtual Solo Pro was the alnico 2 version.   Sometimes you can find them used, and I'd bet Dimarzio will still make them by special order.
