A new (french) guy who initiates to instrument making
« on: April 26, 2019, 04:34:17 PM »
Hello

After making a arcade cabinet then a pincab, I started on january to craft my own bass guitar helped by a professional cabinet maker. My instrument is now over (with plenty of defects, but... it works anyway).

I bought a DP123BK set and a Glockenklang 5 pot preamp (https://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/bass_systems/onboard_3-band.htm): 3 EQ pot, 1 balance and 1 volume (push/pull).

Here is the Glockenklang diagram for the preamp:

I wired the pickup set like this:

And it sounds, I have just one problem:
When I turn the balance pot to one extreme position, it sounds OK, but on the other extreme position, I totally lose the sound from the two treble strings and I still hear the two bass strings.

I surely misunderstood how to wire them so if someone could show me the right way to do it, please?

Thanks
David

Welcome!

It sounds like the EQ may be filtering out the high signal. It's hard to say because I have no idea what the values of everything in the EQ circuit is. What I would do to narrow things down is just wire up the pickups to the balance pot and then out to the volume to make sure everything is working fine without the EQ being there.

Thanks Buddroyce
So the wiring should be OK this way?
I'm gonna try what you suggest.

Hi David,

Hard to say if the wiring is correct as I don't know the specifics of the EQ unit. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer.

Once you've ruled out the balance pot then it narrows it down to the EQ unit.
