Humbucker from Hell question
« on: December 12, 2015, 11:49:38 AM »
Hi, I'm looking for a clear, clean and sort of "single coilish" neck pickup for my SG, and I wonder if the Humbucker From Hell would perform this way with the guitar's 300k linear volume pots?. Should I consider the EJ Custom neck or other options instead?. Thanks

That's a tough option.   I'd almost lean toward the EJ Custom, but the HFH addresses a lot of neck hum issues as well. M

Another option could be to wire a Humbucker to go between series/split or series/parallel

I've owned HFHs in the past and have a EJ Custom neck in a guitar right now. Neither sounds like a single cool but the EJ is twangier.

The HFH in my guitar sounds somewhat single coilish/P90ish. I would run with 500k pots though

Well, HfH is kinda singlecoilish sounding, but not exactly of course. Still its closer than most of humbuckers. I'm using HfH with 250K absolutely fine. That 250k vs 500k is a bit overhyped thing IMHO.

But for sure, coil-cuts (i.e. using just one coil of humbucker) or parallel connection of coils are much better with 250K volume pot - thats for sure.

Anyway, full humbucker mode loses very little by using 250K volume, but single-coil of humbucker or humbucker in parallel gains a lot.

Try the bluesbucker. It may not be as single coilish as the HFH but it does have that P90 sound which is kind single coilish but with more body.
