Does the AT-1 sit between the Norton and the 36th Bridge?
« on: October 30, 2015, 08:21:46 AM »
I've got an Ibanez Artist AR700 (MIJ), which has a thinner body like the newer MIC Artists. The maple top takes up about 1/2 of the body depth, making it brighter (and less bass) than my AR300.
I've got a Norton lying around, but that might be too bright/mid-rangey for it.

I'm looking for a moderately hot set for this axe, to serve as more of a hotter-than-vintage guitar.
Don't want over-the-top metal, but not vintage either; already have 36th sets in two other guitars.

Considering these:
AT-1 bridge / 36th neck
Transition bridge / neck
Transition bridge / Air Zone neck

Anything else I should consider?

If you have a Norton lying around, give it a try. It could be a good starting point to know where to go if it doesn't work out for you.

I had the Norton in my (thicker) AR300, and that was not lacking in treble, by any means.

It will more than likely be brighter in the thinner-bodied AR700. Leaning heavily toward the Transitions at this point.

If you're finding the Norton too bright then use a 250K volume pot.

If you need something fuller/less bright than the Norton I´d go Air Zone or Transition. I guess the AT-1 could fit the bill too but I found it dull. Its very middy which is usually a good thing in my book but somehow I just found it dry and uninspiring.

You could try the Breed neck in the bridge  8)
