Strat H-S-H pickup recco for traditional 80s metal
« on: November 07, 2015, 10:40:17 AM »
I own a mexican made strat(s-s-s) and a marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 head. I wish to change the pickus to get rid of the hum and add more output to it to be able to fully drive my amp and get the 70s and 80s metal tone I love so much. Think of 80s Iommi, Judas Priest, Manilla ROad, Michael Schenker, Accept etc who had that thick fat tone. I am primarily looking to go with H-S-H configuration for the new pickups. Please help with suggestions.

Paf Pro neck Super D bridge and either a Cruiser or Fast Track 1 in the middle (if you like rails.)
My first aftermarket pickup was a Super Distortion back in the 70's.  I strayed and tried Rio Grandes, Duncans, and EMGs only to come back to Dimarzio.  Funny were life takes you.

I have a clip of the Super Distortion a couple of post down if you're looking for sound clips.                                                                                                        vv

Deffo superD on the bridge, for the Middle I'd go with cruiser, and I'd go with super 2 on the neck. Just drop the height of it and it remarkably captures that paf dynamic but still sounds powerful and big when you dig in. If you aint no shreddin using your neck and only do slower nicer licks or cleans only pick up the 36th ann bridge and put that to the neck.

Cheers

Another vote for Super D + PAF Pro. I would put a VV 54 Pro in the middle of those two.
DIMARZIO MODELS CURRENTLY OR PREVIOUSLY OWNED: 68 TOTAL

The Super 2 neck also goes well with the Super D.
