Best strat for middle position with Evolutions
« on: October 06, 2015, 12:13:17 PM »
Hey guys,

This is LĂȘo from Brazil. See if you can help me in this situation.

I have an Ibanez S470 (Korea 1995) mahogany body and the original pickups are almos gone, so I was looking to replace them. The ones I have in mind so far are the Evolutions dp158 and dp159, but I need a strat for middle position.

Some say I should use the ISCV 2 to match them. Do you agree?

Or are there some other choices?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad English.

If you want the full Evolution set then the ISCV 2 is the obvious choice for the middle position. But other options would work as well but it really depends on what you want to achieve with this guitar. Say you want to solo often with the middle pickup with an overdriven or distorted amp tone, a humcancelling or rail pickup would be good. On the other hand, if you only use the middle pickup in connection with either of the humbuckers split, then a traditional single coil could be the better option.

And your English is fine. I wish I could write in Portuguese half as good.

Cheers Stephan

You could also try the Dimarzio HS2 in the middle

If I may, just one more thing.

I couldn't find anywhere the information if the evolutions are f spaced or not. Measuring my guitar here I could say that I would need F spaced at least for the bridge for sure, since it's tremolo.

Should I be worried about this?

Bridge should be F spaced and the neck should be normal spacing.
