I had a Super D in a Super Strat style guitar about 30 years ago.  It sounded pretty good and I seem to remember it had a very convincing single coil tone when split too. Maybe I will have to revisit it.  Just checking to see if DiMarzio might  have come up with additional options in the intervening years?  I guess if it is good enough for Phil Collen, it should do me fine.  He seems to get a pretty decent tone!  Would the Super2 be the best match in the neck position?

I have an early 90's Charvel Fusion Plus with a Duncan Custom in the bridge position.  I like the sound, but it is the regular spaced version and my guitar has a Floyd bridge, so I would like to replace it with an F-spaced pup.  I would like the closest DiMarzio equivalent, as I am planning on going with an Evolution or Gravity Storm Neck and would like to keep it in the family.  Duncan does not seem to offer as wide of a selection of higher output neck pups as DiMarzio and I need a higher output neck pup to match better with the higher output bridge pup and that also splits well.  This particular guitar is my 80's Hair Band/EVH Super Strat.  Ash body, rosewood board, maple neck, Floyd, but with 24.75" "Gibson" scale length.

I would be more interested in the higher output of the two for this particular application.

The AT-1 seems like the closest current production Dimarzio pup to the Virtual Hot PAF recommended by Darthphineas?  My interest is piqued!

Great recommendations so far!  Keep em' comin'.  Anybody know why Vai keeps switching pups?  Is he no longer happy with the Evolutions and Evo2?

Would those pups sound good split?  Usually, vintage output pups sound kinda shrill when split.

Need pup recommendation for a 91' Charvel Fusion Plus.  It has 24 frets, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, ash body, dual humbuckers, Jackson JT-590 Schaller licenced Floyd Rose bridge.  Crucially, this guitar is a "Fusion" between a Strat and a Gibson; i.e., Strat body and vibrato bridge, but Gibson dual hum configuration and "short" 24.75" Gibson scale length.

This guitar will be my primary 80's EVH and Hair Metal axe, but also will be used for classic 70's Hard Rock.

It has a 5-way super switch to select pups, which gives multiple combinations of humbucking and split coil tones, so both pups need to have enough output to produce convincing single coil tones when split.

Current pups are very high output active Reflex Silver pups, which have great sustain for single note instrumental rock melody lines, but are too compressed for what I play.  I need more attack and punch for rhythm work.  Also, when I turn the active tone control up past the flat detent, the bridge pup becomes very harsh, but if tone is flat or cut, there is not enough bite and cut.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
