I actually have not gotten to play a Les Paul with PAF's in it, or even nice PAF style pickups (to my knowledge). I understand the difference in output common with them, and personally I am not a fan of this, but I am one to adjust pickup height anyways. I suppose either way I could work around the volume difference. Although at this point in time, it's looking like a moot point anyways as I now have to figure out how to fly my gear (guitar, pedalboard and combo amp) with only a flight case for my guitar (heading back to college in early January). I may just buy a cheap tube or hybrid amp and have it shipped there. Anyways, I actually prefer having my neck and bridge pickups with the same (or similar) output, so I can switch between them without having to adjust my volume knob for the same volume/gain level. And when I do have the neck pickup at the right height, I want one that is kind of bright and single coil/p-90-esque.

Hello all!

Later this month I should (emphasis on the should, by which I mean "I just might if I'm lucky") have enough money to buy a Virtual PAF Neck pickup I found, for my PRS SE Custom 245 (which already has the Virtual PAF bridge installed), or I would also be open to another pickup. I absolutely love my VPAF bridge, but I'm not sure about the neck. I am looking for something MUCH brighter than the stock SE bass humbucker (I think that's what it is), with an output that will match well with the bridge. I was directed to the Bluesbucker, which is supposed to sound like a P90, and has also received stellar reviews on this forum for what I am looking for, but for that my question would be if it is low enough in output to match with the VPAF bridge? Thanks!

The Pickup Place / Pickup to pair with a PAF Master Bridge

Hello! I'm looking for a pickup to go with my PAF Master Bridge pickup, as stated above. I would like for this one to be warmer and fuller, in a way that complements the tone of the Master in the middle position. I would prefer to stay Dimarzio, but I am open to other companies as well. The guitar is an ESP LTD EC, which I presently have drop tuned to drop A (that was fun x) ).

If being hum-free is the priority, have you considered parallel wiring?

I have considered parallel, but when I did try it it sounded way too thin. As well, I would prefer for it to be able to be switched with the same push pull pot.

Oddly, I find split to sound a little thinner than parallel.

And yes, series/parallel for one pickup will take up an entire push/pull pots capacity.

It's possible I might have done it wrong, but I don't think so because it was still noiseless.

Guitar Lounge / SSS Guitars

So, I've been doing a lot of reading up on the subject, and I want to try some noise-free single coil guitars. That said, I have yet to find a strat or tele that feels comfortable. What alternatives are there to these guitars that is ss/sss? All Ibanez guitars I've seen are HSH if they have three pickups, and the only other sss guitar I've seen was by ESP, a Japanese artist's signature model. I just had a ngd, so I'm not looking to buy right now, I'm just curious if there's anything out there (I just added a PRS SE Custom 245 to my rig, in addition to the ESP LTD EC256 I'm still getting DiMarzio pickups for). The SE and LTD necks are by far my preference as far as feel, and if I had to choose one for just feel it would be the PRS.

P.S. I am aware that with the adapters, you can make any humbucker slot fit a single coil, and that p90's are technically single coils, however I am talking about strat/tele style pickups.

Have you tried to see if DiMarzio will make them for you?

Bad news, Dimarzio has a Web page saying what they will make thata discontinued and what they won't, and both the VPAF and VHPAF are in the "will not" category it seems.

I have been searching for a while now to try to get my hands on a Dimarzio Virtual PAF, with no luck, at least not in North America. Any advice on where to go to find them?

P.S. I just asked Dimarzio if they could still wind them, I'll post again what they respond with.

The Pickup Place / Humbuckers Noiseless When Split Clarification

Hello all! This is my first time posting on a pickup forum, but it's only because I haven't been able to find what I want to know this time.

Basically what I am wanting is a humbucker that retains its noiseless properties when split, but is more like a real single coil, i.e. not rails.

I am aware of the Lace Sensor Duallys, and was wondering why no one else had done something similar with other stacked humbuckers like the Area series, so I emailed Dimarzio asking if they had considered doing something like this. I was responded to with the statement that they hadn't done it because of "issues with magnetic interaction and hum cancellation." How does this problem occur?
