I don't know about the chrome logo, but the rails are a standard option as far is I know. In fact I can see some for sale from banjomikez on Ebay along with gold rails.

Good info! Sorry I'm a little indecisive. too many pickups I wanna try and not enough guitars haha. I'll just go with the Super 3 and if I do need more highs, I could always hook it up to a meg pot.

I'm probably going to be ordering the replacement pickups in the next few days, and while I'm sold on the Super 2, I want a little more info on the Super 3 before I make my final decision. My amp is a mesa boogie 50 cal+ and it is super thick sounding, so I'm just wondering how the super 3 matches with that kind of sound? I'm just afraid of it being muddy through my rig and maybe something more neutral like an X2N might be a better fit or maybe even a d activator x? Again the objective is to get something with more powerful and punchy lows compared too the evolution, but I don't wanna go to far in the other direction.

Since when have we needed to prove that we have certain pickups? He wants some time with the product before he writes his review, that doesn't seem too unreasonable to me...

Yeah, I've used the S2 a lot. I still have it in one guitar for when I want that early Gilbert shred tone.

That's exactly the kind of tone I'm going for! I've been way into staccato Paul Gilbert licks lately, but they don't sound so good on bassy neck pickups.

Thanks for the reply Darth! I've never tried the Illuminator neck, my ESP (which is the one with the illuminator bridge) has a gravity storm in the neck and the Jackson has an Air Classic in the neck. I've stayed away from the Illumintor neck as I tend to prefer bright neck pickups. In fact my Gravity storm tends to stay in parallel.

If possible I tend to use single coils in the neck, but unfortunately my main guitars are HH config, so I thought maybe the super 2 could at least provide the treble response that I like, even if it doesn't sounds like a single coil. I suppose the Humucker from hell fits what I've described as well, but reviews are pretty mixed for that one.

The only question I have about the Super 3 is whether it can keep up with the Illuminator as far as thick palm mutes go and does it remain articulate enough for leads? I don't use my Jackson as much because the Evo just sounds so wimpy compared to the Illuminator, but I don't want an Illuminator in both guitars as I do enjoy some variety.

Been playin around with swapping the pups in my Jackson for awhile, but haven't had the time or money and am interested in these two. I've mentioned before that I like my Evolution in the bridge, but I want more low end thump, like my Illumminator in my ESP and I thought maybe the Super 3 would fit the bill. On the neck I want something clear for solos and was gonna try a paf pro, but from what I can tell the Super 2 does the same sort of clear shreddie neck pickup thing, while maintaining the super disortion vibe, which seems cool for a matched set. Of course this speculative interest and I won't know until I try it, but for those who have the combo, what did you think?

And if so, did it make it sound exactly like an Evo 2 or are there slight differences? I love the Evolution and actually don't mind the high end, but I'm still curious about the Evo 2 and this is cheaper than buying one.

I've been reading reviews and listening to clips of the Illuminator and I think it might be exactly what I need! It's got that deep sound I'm looking for and yet still very clear and tight. I'm not sure if the neck pickup will be my thing, but with the exchange policy it doesn't hurt to try it out.

I played one of the John Petrucci signature models and thought the Crunch Lab was nice, but a tad too smooth. DiMarzio says that the illuminator has more highs, so maybe that would be better. I have to wait until pay day until I can order pickups, so I have time to think about it.

Thanks for the recommendations! I was actually looking at getting a Megadrive for awhile, but for some reason it kinda dropped off the radar for me. I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I think I'll give it a shot.

My ESP M-II is from 2006, though I don't know if the ones from the 90's are very different. Either way it's an awesome guitar and the neck is just perfect.

Hey guys, I'm looking at putting some DiMarzio's in my ESP M-II and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to recommend a pickup for me? This one is the bolt on version of the M-II, with a rosewood fretboard and I plug straight into a Peavey Ultra (though I might add a tube screamer sometime in the future). Also, I mainly play power metal and death metal. I know for sure that I'm going to try out an Evolution in the neck, but I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to bridge pickups. I'm looking for something with a really chunky, firm low end, but I need enough articulation for technical riffs and I like a little sizzle on the top end (nothing TOO bright though). Overall I guess I'm looking for something balanced that leans towards the warm end of the spectrum. Right now I'm looking at getting a Norton, EVO 2, D Activator X, Super 3 or the D-Sonic. I should mention that I already own and tried the D-Sonic in a Basswood RG and thought it was okay, but I didn't love it. I'm only considering it because it's not being used right now. The Peavey Ultra has plenty of gain as far as I'm concerned, so I'm not too worried about output. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
