The Pickup Place / Re: An Injector Bridge model for an Yngwie tone?
« on: January 20, 2019, 04:36:58 AM »
I have the FS-1 and I like it. But am interested in more humbuckers that keep me in the Yngwie ballpark. I think the Injector would definitely be worth a try.

The Pickup Place / An Injector Bridge model for an Yngwie tone?
« on: January 19, 2019, 08:29:47 PM »
I'm using some presets on my POD HD Pro X which pretty much give me the Yngwie tone. I have tried the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 but what I noticed about that pickup is it sounds like sandpaper. It has kind of a raspy, abrasive tone which leaves me scratching my head.

I was thinking of trying the Injector Bridge. Never owned one of those.

Do you think that would keep me in the ballpark for Yngwie tones? I don't want to sound like Paul Gilbert.

The Injectors were developed for Paul Gilbert. Not Yngwie.

The Pickup Place / Looking for an Yngwie type sounding neck pickup

I've used the HS-4 but it's old and pale sounding. And because of it's low output tends to sound too clean. I'm looking for another pickup either single-coil or vertical humbucker than has a little bit of that Yngwie neck pickup sound.

Fender Fat 50's? Virtual Vintage 54 Pro?

Any ideas?

I am currently using the YJM Fury's which are great but am always interested in other pickups which have a semblance to that sound.

I have had zero luck with David Allen Pickups. The people on YouTube sound good with them but they have not worked in any guitar I had put them in.

Van Zandts are not that good either.

The Pickup Place / Why was this pickup discontinued?

We have the Virtual Vintage Blues. We have the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2. But we used to have a Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues.

I never understood why Dimarzio discontinued that model.

I tried the Jazz in the neck. Didn't work. It was articulate and clear like advertised, but the overall sound was kinda lame for hard and heavy soloing.

The Pickup Place / Re: What is the PAF Pro like in a Les Paul?

How about the famous Super Distortion in the bridge? I tried the Strat version many years ago and from what I remember, it had a buzzy sound to it. Don't know why. And millions of players have used that pickup including famous guitar players.

If anyone has used it in the bridge please post your observations.

I'm on the search for some better sounding neck pickups in my Les Paul. Currently I'm using the Duncan '59 which sounds good underneath the treble, but crappy under the bass because it's way too bassy and woofy.

I ordered a Dimarzio PAF Pro since I read very favorable things about it.

I'm gonna try a few others too like maybe the Humbucker From Hell, and perhaps the Full Shred or Duncan Distortion.

Anyone here have any experience with the PAF Pro in the neck?

The Pickup Place / Does the FS-1 work in the neck?
« on: August 01, 2016, 09:32:43 PM »
I've got a Road Worn Strat with a Maple Neck. Love it. I've tried the FS-1 in the bridge and it sounds good in that position, but I'm wondering if any of you have ever put the FS-1 in the neck?
At first I thought to myself it's not made for the neck and would most likely sound too round and too bassy, but now I'm thinking it may work.

I would love to find a single-coil that sounds kinda similar to the YJM Fury neck pickup. Maybe the FS-1 is the answer?

The Pickup Place / The FS-1 and the SDS-1 in a Maple Strat
« on: July 20, 2015, 04:45:14 PM »
I tried the FS-1 in the neck of my Rosewood Blackmore Strat and it sounded too boomy and the tone was too rounded. Sounded great in the bridge though.

I got rid of the Blackmore Strat and I'll be receiving a Maple Classic 70s Strat later in the week.

Was wondering how the FS-1 would sound in the neck of that and I'm thinking of putting an SDS-1 in the bridge.

Anyone?

The Pickup Place / Re: What does the Area 61 in the neck sound like?

I found out. It doesn't sound as good in comparison to the Virtual Vintage Blues. Too rounded and bassy in my guitar.

I'm familiar with the sound of the Virtual Vintage Blues, was wondering how does the Area 61 compare to that? Is the Area series designed to sound more vintage like and more glassy than the Blues or Heavy Blues 2?
