The Super Distortion is a bridge pickup.
But works greatly in neck too.

Lock and loaded! At least installed Super Distortion S in neck position. Fantastic pickup! Better than I expected! It is powerfull, screams with a lot of cut. It is smooth but not too dark. Have a lot of presence thanks to high-mids. In comparison with regular Super D it is brighter, less balls but with more bite and better dynamic. Exactly what I was need.

Chopper came to my mind first. What did you not like about it?

Cheers Stephan
I tried it long time ago but with different guitar and gear. Is had weak sound with lack of bite and attack. Not cross between single coil and humbucker as described on DiMarzio web page. Just very weak humbucker.
I have experience with soldering guitar electronics so I doubt that I did something wrong with it. I don't know may be it was defective pickup.
By the way. Already ordered Super Ds on ebay. If it will be to powerful I can just set this pickup far from strings or wire it parallel. So much options.

The Pro Track is voiced kinda like the PAF Pro (PRO Track, PAF PRO) so it might work out well for you if you want something more humbuckery. If you want a more single-coil vibe with bumped up output, maybe a Virtual Solo?
I have Virtual Solo too. Prefer set Evo 2 close to the strings. It gives me more tightness and push in sound. In that case Virtual Solo lack output to balance well with Evo 2. And Virtual Solo has very strong magnetic field. I can't set it to close in neck position. I kills sustain. But in bridge position in amazing!
Think I will keep VVHB2 and VS for my future strat project.

The Pickup Place / Pro Track vs Super Distortion S in neck

Hi guys!
This is my guitar I crafted and put Evo 2 and VVHeavy Blues 2 pickups. While I happy with sound of Evo 2 I want something more powerfull and compressed replacement for neck VVHB2.
Thinking about Pro Track or Super Distortion S. Which one will better match with Evo 2 and which one will scream and cut like Evo? I prefer when bridge and neck pickups have equal output and dynamic.
P.S. It should has good split tone too.

The Pickup Place / Dual rail singles equivalent of DiMarzio Evolution set?
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:17:48 PM »
Hi guys!
Which dual rail single sized DiMarzio pickups will be most close to the sound of Evolution humbuckers (more interested in Evo2 and Evolution neck)?
Fast Track 2 in both bridge and neck positions?

Ok. Thank you! I narrowed my searching toward to Fast Track 1 and Injector.

The Pickup Place / Replacement for VV Heavy Bues 2
« on: August 12, 2018, 02:16:43 PM »
Hi!
I have Heavy Blues 2 pickup in neck position of my guitar paired with Evo 2 in bridge and want replace it with more bright sounding pickup but don't loosing power at the same time. VVHB2 is too dark for me. Tried Virtual Solo that was even more dark and Chopper too smooth and lack of character.
This pickup must be very bright and screamy

I have some candidates list:
1. Fast Track 1 - I really liked its clean sound in all youtube demos but waht about hi-gain and matching with Evo 2?
2. Pro Track or Fast Track 2 with toggle switching for parallel wiring. IMHO for best veritility. But will parallel mode wil be bright enough?
3. Injector neck.

The Pickup Place / Re: Direct mounting...

I am not wrong and you too. I know what are you talking about and you are right. I just tried to explain more simple.
But still pickup can't hear wood vobration directly. Wood is not a ferromagnetic. But its vibrations forcing pickup to vibrate too. It vibrates relatively strings as you said and its winding vibrates too.

No! There can't be difference in sound. Electro-magnetic pickups hear only ferromagnetic metal (metal that can be attracted by magnet) strings vibration. So acoustic vibration of wood can't be heard directly by pickups.
BUT!!! Too strong wood vibrations can vibrate pickup's winding which causing microphonic feedback effect and ear piercing squiking sound.

I use both type of mountings. Just cosmetical and adjustment difference.

After a month of playing with DiMarzio Heavy Blues 2 disappointed with this pickup too. It is very weird pickup. On frets higher 12th this pickup sounds great. Very stratty and fat at the same time. With a good sustain. Below 12th fret it started sounded like wah pedal with toe rised up. Lack of highs and attack and muddy lows. So I returned to Virtual Solo for neck position. It matches better with Evo 2 than VVHeavy Blues 2 and Chopper.

The Pickup Place / Re: Mahogany body: EVO 2 vs Evolution
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:02:34 AM »
Evolution and Evo 2 are my favorite bridge humbuckers. I've tried them on mahogony, alder and basswood. With mahogany and alder they can sound a little bit too much in your face. Just set Evos not too close to the strings. Closer to the strings more beefier tone. Far from strings - thinner sound. Try to find a balance and they will sound perfect! They are very sensitive to height adjustment. Especially Evo 2.
