The Pickup Place / Hvy Blues 2 vs Little '59 in neck
« on: June 05, 2020, 03:59:29 PM »
Which one would be brighter in Strat neck?

Middle p'up will be Injector nck and Bridge p'up will be a Virtual Solo.
(500k pots always)

My understanding is that all you have to do is contact them and if it's possible, they'll build it.

Aha!- I'll give it a try.
Thank you.

A little late to this post- but the Norton is my favorite bridge pickup (it does virtually everything well) and the Bluesbucker is probably my favorite neck bucker- the low notes are nut muddy at all, while the high notes have a nice middy bite to them.
I can care less if it sounds like a P90 or not (which it's supposed to emulate).

Try 920 D Custom (Siegler).
I've perused them many times, but I want specific DMZ pickups and a particular wiring- will they custom build it to my specs?
It doesn't appear so by their website.

Who will make a custom designed pickguard for me. (fully loaded and wired)
Dimarzio or Warmoth won't (already asked)

It will be a standard 11 hole Strat pickguard, but with a few specifics:
H/S/H
certain Dimarzio pickups
and a reasonably uncomplicated wiring scheme.

Forget Fender custom shop- too hard to deal with
Forget Seymour Duncan custom shop- I want Dimarzio pickups
Siglar music- I doubt it

I'd be willing to pay an individual guitar tech/luthier if they are reputable and recommended.

Any advice/direction here would be helpful.

thnx,
Kurt in Maine

I'd suggest Area 61/Area 61/PAF Master bridge!

The Pickup Place / Re: create Norton from a FRED and TZ?
« on: April 03, 2017, 04:44:45 PM »
Yeah, I've "modded" lots of 'buckers- mostly DMZs. A lot of Seymour Duncan users suggest the "glue" thing about DMZs (I think they think they're cheaper than Duncans?), but DMZ doesn't glue anything in their pick-ups. I've had dozens apart.
I'm not -sure-, but I think (in general) DMZ has the slug coil as the higher output coil when they design their mis-matched coiled p'ups.
Either way, it's fun talkin' bout modding p'ups.

From spending lot's of time on both forums, it's obvious though that Duncan users mod a helluva' lot more than DMZ users.

The Pickup Place / create Norton from a FRED and TZ?
« on: April 03, 2017, 09:07:07 AM »
can I combine half of a Tone Zone and half of a FRED to make a Norton?
Like perhaps the screw coil from the TZ with the higher output of the FRED?
(other than one of the FRED's coils having hex screws instead of slugs).

I know this might be possible- is it?

signed,
missing Norton

H/H Strat- Alder body, rosewood fretboard, vintage trem.

Currently have 36th Ann/Tone Zone.
 Pros:
Love the middle position
Cons:
-want more clarity on low E string
-want less output on bridge pick up
-want more high end balance between neck and bridge pickups

I'm have all pick-ups mentioned above and I'm familiar with them.
I just wanted some other's opinions.
I use a cleanish crunchy blues tone

thanks

The Pickup Place / Re: (another) Dimarzio/Duncan polarity question
« on: June 25, 2016, 04:57:37 PM »
okay- weirdness seems to be happening.

The standard way- DMZ black/white together, red hot, green ground
and Duncan red/white together, black hot, green ground sounded skunky.
So I reversed the Duncan's hot- ground wires- made green hot and black & bare ground (which has worked before), but it still sounds s k u n k y.

Do I need to change the Duncan coils: black/green together and use the red and white for hot and ground?!

I just discovered (by good ole trial and error), FWIW this pickup combo needs to havenonevof the pickup reversed from manufacturer's specs. So I just made the Duncan's green the hot wire and made black and bare the ground.

dunzo!

The Pickup Place / (another) Dimarzio/Duncan polarity question
« on: June 25, 2016, 03:29:54 PM »
Dimarzio DP103 (36th neck)
Duncan Classic Stack (original one)

I know both DMZ's and DNCN's color code-
I just don't know if I need to reverse either pickup's hot/ground wires to match the polarity of each pickup.

I also know how to check it out but was just hoping to get it right the first time. I wanted to avoid having to re-do it after I assemble the pickguard (2 pickup guitar).

thanks
