The Pickup Place / Re: hotter than air classic bridge

Another option is a clean boost or EQ pedal. I generally try this first if I love the pickup but just want a little more of everything pushing the amp.

The Pickup Place / Fantom

Does anyone know about the Fantom p90?

https://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/soap-bar/fantom-p90-full-size-humbucker-cover

Four coils with neo magnets - interested to know how it is made (as well as how it sounds). I had expected the output/TMB to have a greater difference from the vintage p90.

For paf type, you would probably start with a protrack.

I had chopper. Didn't like it.

In that case, protrack. I think Super D single in neck would be too thick/dark for what you want.

Neither, I would try a chopper.

True velvet with the breed/fred. Heavy Blues with the liquifire and crunchlab.

Next thing after a super D and paf pro in a flying V - Has to be either a Marshall 2203 or 1959 into a full stack, maybe with a little goosing from a tube screamer.

I would be surprised if they are exactly the same, but they would be darn close.

The different size of the tele and strat bobbins would probably need some type of change.

The Pickup Place / Re: 2019 new models

Very surprising since it is now almost six weeks from the initial post.

Not surprising at all. Other models (paf 59 IIRC and 2018 models) had a long time from initial news to actual release. IMO, not the next way to manage hype a new model for sale.

I need to know more about the fantom and vintage p90 - not fully happy with any of my p90 in humbucker form pickups. Though I'm resigned to having to wait a long time.

The Pickup Place / Re: Neck HB pickup to match a Tele Super Distortion T?

The SD T is not as hot as the full size SD.

You cant really go wrong with paf pro or paf, both classic combos. Personally, I prefer a paf.

What are you hoping to achieve with this guitar, and are you wiring the SD T for a coil split or parallel switching?

The Pickup Place / Re: Best humbucker for single True Velvets

Gilmour and Satriani, well my favourite Gilmour tones are FS1 in neck and my favourite Satch would be paf pro in the bridge. Not at all sure how they would go together though.

Personally, my favourite HSS is VHPaf, FS1, FS1.  You could think of it as Gilmour and Van Halen.

It really depends what you are trying to achieve.

Personally, with true velvets I would go for an air classic, or virtual hot paf (if you can find one).

Any low out put humbucker would reduce (but not eliminate) the volume difference. You could also tweak pickup heights. The thing is, knowing what type of tone you want will also influence the choice of pickup.

You could also use a concentric pot to effectively make a 3 pot guitar into a 4 pot set up. They can be fiddly to use though - IMO better for staying at one setting.

14
You could wire the tone knob so that it only works on one of the pups.

I tend to want more brightness from the neck, so in 3 pot guitars I tend to use a neck spin a split, bridge volume and tone.

I would go super D bridge and paf neck. The super 2 neck is, IMO, too close in sound to the super D bridge - I like a bit more difference. Soulful leads sounds more like a paf neck than a super 2 neck.

Compared to the custom/59 combo, the super D is more raw sounding and more bass/mids, the paf is again more mids, more singing tone and not as boomy.
