I’m looking forward to these.  It will be interesting to see what they become.

The Pickup Place / Re: Active/Passive Pickup Question

You could look into the EMG Retroactives. You wouldn't have to change anything and they seem to have gotten good reviews for being very passive-like. No experience with them, so I can't confirm that.

Would love to hear how that turns out.

Thanks.  I am noticing that there are lots of review of the FT2 and a fair amount of the TZ S, but very few for the Super Dist S.  That might say everything that there is to say considering it isn't a new pickup.

The Pickup Place / Tone Zone S vs Super Distortion S

It is really hard to look up info on these pickups because of how the "S" doesn't really factor into the search well.

How close is each one to its full-sized counterpart and how are they compared to each other, if anyone knows?

If they had not been in an EVH guitar, nobody would have cared.

The options that DiMarzio put out there as “close” might be the closest thing from the DiMarzio menu...but that doesn’t mean it’s similar enough to use as a substitute.

How close are the EVH Wolfgang pickups,? Are they completely their own thing?

The Pickup Place / Axis pickup clone/copy?

For as popular and "mythic" as the Axis pickups are, I haven't really seen companies do their own game on them. Lots of copies of the Frankies and 5150 Kramers, and even some of the Wolfgangs, but there seems to be a distinct lack of attempts at the Axis versions. Most seem happy with the air Norton for the neck, but there is lots of debate about the tone zone. I am surprised companies haven't taken a shot at them, unless I am missing something.

Fishman Fluence Modern.

Many people dig the ceramic version. I sort of like the albino ones.

Auto-correct may possibly be one the most entertaining things in the world.

The frankenstein pickup is basically a Duncan custom custom. A 14k pickup with an A2. A PAF is nothing like it in my opinion.
Correct! Pariah Pickups makes a model called the Pasadena Black that is supposed to be like that.  I have heard good things, but I have no experience with them.  Planning on getting a set for a parts guitar i am planning on after tax return.

The Pickup Place / New Timmons rail for the bridge?
« on: November 04, 2018, 05:26:20 PM »
On Andy's FB page there is an image of him with an upcoming signature AZ version of the AT-100. It has a rail style single on the bridge.  I wonder if this is an existing pickup or a new signature model? Maybe we will find out before NAMM.

Is there a particular reason you suggest to stick with the 500K pots?  Have you tried the Breed neck in the bridge of a strat-like guitar?

If I do it, (there is a debate in my mind about getting a PAF Pro for this experiment, or a Breed neck) I will definitely post about it.  After reading about the Breed neck being a fatter PAF Pro, I was really intrigued about using it.  The only thing I have heard negative about the Breed neck is that the high end can be strident when in the bridge.  I know that there are 3 screws that can be added per coil.  I wonder if just adding 1 screw per coil would pull just a hair of the high end back, while leaving the rest of the pickup alone.

This will be a cool experiment.  Then next part of decision process is using a 500K or 250K pot.  Maybe using a Breed neck with a 250K pot would be the equivalent of doing the VV mod.  So many questions.

The Pickup Place / PAF Pro with VV mod?
« on: September 21, 2018, 08:28:56 PM »
I thought I had read at one time someone was going to do the Virtual Vintage mod to a PAF Pro but I haven't seen any follow up. Did I miss that? If not, can anyone predict what the possible results of this mod on a PP would be? Such a versatile pickup, but can get bright in the bridge. Thinking about doing this for a future project a few months from now.
