Title: Area 61 vs Cruiser Bridge
Post by: TheWarrior on July 15, 2019, 10:53:03 AM
Hello !

Can you compare them form me plz?

Im planning to put then in a neck position on one of my strats.

Reading from specs i see about the same output but the area 61 has got little less bass and middle and little more treble.

Is it the truth?

I bet that area 61 should more authentic as single coil....

Thanks !

The Area 61 is definitely gonna be more traditional. If you want to hear a neck-position Cruiser, Andy Timmons uses a Cruiser bridge in the neck and middle of his AT, and a full Cruiser set (bridge, middle, and neck) in his ATZ.
The Area's probably gonna give you a little less output and a different response (more like a traditional Strat pickup vs. the Cruiser being a little more even and balanced) because of its different construction.

You can’t go wrong with the ‘61 if vintage sounds and low gain versatile and note definition.

Thanks!
What about the output? Is it true that the perceived output is similar?

Electrically, it's pretty similar, but because of the blade design, the Cruiser should give you a little more perceived sustain and output.

61 = Stevie Ray Vaughn = a little more Texas Blues strat-like
Cruiser = Andy Timmons = a little more modern strat tone, maybe slightly tighter than the 61

Both have about the same output. Both pretty bright. Both hold up pretty well with high gain. Both need to run on 250k pots to sound best, although you can also use the resistor trick to make them "see" 250k while using them with 500k.

I know Timmons is using 500k with cruisers.

Btw being in the neck 500k might be fine.

Btw imho 250k vs 500k is a subtle difference... non night and day

Do you know that Timmons does NOT have a resistor wired in parallel with his Cruisers? The Dimarzio website clearly says they are meant to be used with 250K pots, and in my experience they are way too bright and thin with 500k pots, especially if you are using them clean.

Pretty sure his Ibby sig has 500k with a treble bleed and autosplits but nothing fancy. His sound is pretty rounded but defined, so I figure he uses the extra pickup treble to compensate for less treble at the amp.

i think it's even a matter of taste...

I like warm bridge  and bright neck pickups combo
