Title: What do you think about this combo?
Post by: OathkeepeR on September 16, 2016, 05:37:47 AM
Hello everyone

I have a guitar being made for me with : basswood body / maple top / maple neck and fretboard

Since it's gonna be a ebmm axis shape etc I was thinking the AT-1 F spaced for bridge and Liquifire on neck
Gonna match them with dimarzio 3 way toggle switch  and push pull 500khom pontetiometer.... Do you think it's gonna work OK with this combo... Need some versatility out of a guitar.. Even if it's a rock guitar...

Wanted also to ask if I should de-air the AT-1 .....I have been reading a lot in this forum but still haven't found any step by step on how to do.. Video or pics.... Can anyone help on the matter?

Thanks in advance
Dimitris

I havent tried that combo (only the AT-1 and I didnt particularily care for it) but it looks on paper like it should work fine. One thing to try if you want versatility is go for a 5-way super switch. That way you can for instance have:

bridge
bridge in parallel
both (outer or inner coils depending on what you like)
neck in parallel
neck

I use this in my H-H guitars and its the bomb. Parallel is incredibly useful IMHO.

That combo should work in principle. I have not used this exact combo (never played a Liquifire) but I used the Air Norton in the neck position together with the Tone Zone and the Breed bridge with good results. I have the AT-1 currently in a guitar together with the Bluesbucker in the neck and like that very much.

If your guitar has the 4 pole 3 way toggle you can automatically split both pickups in the center position. But indeed the 5-way super switch (aka 24 pole switch) would provide more options - if you have room for it in your guitar (easier if everything is mounted on a pickguard).

Cheers Stephan

Thanks for the answers guys but seriously I have zero experience with the complex switching systems.
My main guitar is HSS fender classic Floyd rose... Dimarzio paf  pro and 2 American standard single coils.... IMHO very nice combo... Most complex stuff in there is a dbx tone pot with mid boost... My other guitar is a Floyd rose 1 HB Kramer.... So.......

My main thinking was to only have neck split.... Good for some cleans and maybe some bluesy stuff.... The setup u guys describe should be awesome  but still need to see if I really want that many options on that :)

Any ideas on where to find exact "manual" of de-airing the AT-1??? Or should I consider using some other bridge pickup... Like illuminator maybe???

I wouldnt go for an Illuminator if you want versatility. AT-1 is better as is Tone Zone, Transition, Norton...

Dont know if you've seen this but this is some info on De-Airing.
